Golden Globes Expands Best Podcast Field To 30 Shows.

The Golden Globes is bringing its Best Podcast award back for a second year, expanding the pool of shows eligible to compete as podcasting becomes a permanent part of the Hollywood awards show. Thirty podcasts are eligible to submit for consideration for the 84th Golden Globes, up from 25 in the category’s inaugural year. The list was once again compiled by the Golden Globes’ data partner Luminate.

The field includes some of podcasting’s biggest names, including “The Joe Rogan Experience,” which failed to secure eligibility last year. Other hits on the list include “Call Her Daddy,” “Crime Junkie,” “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “The Daily,” “SmartLess,” “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” “The Megyn Kelly Show,” “Pod Save America,” “Pardon My Take” and “This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von.”

Several shows that were eligible during the category’s first year are back, including “Dateline NBC,” “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” “Morbid,” “MrBallen Podcast: Strange, Dark & Mysterious Stories,” “Rotten Mango,” “Stuff You Should Know,” “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” “The Shawn Ryan Show” and “The Tucker Carlson Show.”

The expanded field also brings several other prominent podcasts into the mix. They include “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend,” “New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce,” “This American Life,” “Revisionist History,” “My Favorite Murder with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark,” “Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang,” “Bad Friends,” “Behind the Bastards,” “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, “The Toast” and “Love Trapped.”

Being on the list does not automatically put a show on the nominations ballot. The Golden Globes says eligible podcasts must submit by Oct. 30 to be considered by voters, with submission mandatory. Luminate determines eligibility using criteria such as audience reach and engagement, revenue and chart rankings.

The podcast category made its debut as the Golden Globes moved to recognize podcasting alongside its traditional film and television awards earlier this year, when Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang with Amy Poehler” won the inaugural Golden Globe for Best Podcast. The expansion from 25 to 30 eligible programs gives voters a somewhat larger pool to consider in year two.

The list nevertheless remains dominated by U.S.-based shows, potentially keeping alive questions about the international scope of a podcast prize presented by an awards organization that describes itself as celebrating film, television and podcasting worldwide. The inaugural eligibility list drew criticism from the UK podcast industry over its U.S.-only makeup.

Nominations for the 84th Golden Globes will be announced Dec. 7. The ceremony will be held Sunday, Jan. 10, 2027, with comedian and actress Nikki Glaser returning as host. Glaser, who won raves for her hosting duties last year, will return to the stage. She is also the host of iHeartPodcast’s weekly “The Nikki Glaser Podcast,” which launched in 2021.
