Glass Podcasts is venturing into the realm of always-on podcasts with a new true crime series it is co-producing with iHeartPodcasts. American Homicide re-examines infamous murder cases through a mix of first-person accounts, archival recordings, court footage, immersive audio and a journalistic investigation into each crime. As part of the partnership, episodes will made available one week early, ad-free for anyone with an iHeart True Crime+ subscription on Apple Podcasts.
The creators say American Homicide explores the mysterious and iconic murder cases from locations across America with murders are closely tied to their settings — whether it’s the spacious skies and vast deserts of New Mexico or the backwaters of the Louisiana bayou.
“When the opportunity to host American Homicide came up, it was a no-brainer,” said crime investigator and journalist Sloane Glass, who hosts the series. “I have spent the better part of my career reporting on true crime.”
Glass is News Nation’s National Correspondent, and she has previously worked for Fox TV, Time Magazine, and USA Today, as well as the New York Daily News.
Each week, Glass Podcasts says listeners will be taken on an immersive journey through the crime and investigation accompanied by emotional interviews with those closest to the victims. They will relive the dogged work of the investigators and sit in the courtroom with the prosecutors who brought killers to justice.
“In an overcrowded marketplace, American Homicide has found a way to approach true crime stories in one of the most important — but often overlooked — ways: how it affects the surrounding community,” said Nancy Glass, CEO of Glass Entertainment Group. “What makes these stories so intriguing is that the location where the crime took place is another character in the story.”
Glass Entertainment Group and iHeartPodcasts announced last year that they were teaming up to create a slate of true crime shows. Glass Entertainment Group broke into podcasting in 2019, and in 2022 it partnered with iHeart to produce the hit series Betrayal. In all, Glass Podcasts — the division overseen by Andrea Gunning, Head of Podcast Production and Development; and Ben Fetterman, Head of Podcast Strategy — plans to release another six to eight projects under the alliance.
“We are excited to welcome American Homicide to our amazing slate of true crime shows with Glass Podcasts,” said Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts. “Time and time again the team has produced gripping true-crime series that listeners instantly become engrossed in, and we can’t wait to give them another with American Homicide.”
