Giving Day Returns (change to Today) To Raise Funds For Broadcasters Facing Hardship.

With its annual Giving Day set for Thursday, June 25, the Broadcasters Foundation of America is urging broadcasters nationwide to come together in support of colleagues facing financial hardship caused by debilitating illness, natural disasters and other personal crises.

The one-day fundraising campaign is a key part of the foundation’s mission to provide emergency financial assistance to radio and television professionals when tragedy strikes. In a reminder distributed to members of the press this week, the organization highlighted the impact donor support has had on broadcasters across the country.

According to the Foundation, more than $20 million in aid has been distributed during the past 15 years to radio and television professionals representing more than 200 broadcast companies across 45 states and U.S. territories. The grants have helped recipients navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives, including serious health challenges and disaster-related hardships.

“On Giving Day, we encourage everyone in broadcasting to come together and support our broadcast community,” the foundation said in its message. “Every contribution helps ensure that the Broadcasters Foundation can continue to provide a helping hand to broadcasters in need when tragedy strikes.”

The campaign seeks participation from both individual broadcasters and media companies, while also raising awareness of the foundation’s role as a financial safety net for industry employees and retirees facing unexpected adversity.

Earlier this month, BFOA President Tim McCarthy said the industry has a responsibility to support its own during times of crisis. “Giving Day is an opportunity for every broadcaster — individuals and companies alike — to make a meaningful difference for colleagues facing unimaginable challenges,” McCarthy said.

This year’s Giving Day coincides with the Broadcasters Foundation’s Media Mixer at iHeartMedia’s New York studios, where emerging broadcasters and industry leaders will gather for networking and mentorship opportunities.

The Broadcasters Foundation has earned top ratings from charity watchdog organizations, including a Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid and a Four-Star Rating and 100% Give With Confidence Score from Charity Navigator.
