In an effort to reach Florida’s Latino voters, Latina Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is launching a six-figure ad campaign across the state’s Spanish-language radio stations.
Aimed at incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Scott, the ad blitz represents her most expensive radio campaign so far, according to Axios. Scott has leaned heavily on TV ads targeting Latinos as part of a multi-million dollar campaign.
Mucarsel-Powell is considered to be an underdog in the race vs. the incumbent senator, but her campaign has unmistakably gained ground in recent months. A University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab poll released in July gave Scott a 47% to 43% edge, but a YouGov poll in May showed Scott with an eight-point advantage, 45% to 37%. And earlier polls gave Scott a lead of 15 to 17 points vs. the challenger.
Meanwhile, the re-election campaign of another incumbent senator, Democrat Tim Kaine of Virginia, is also getting out the message with radio. The Kaine For Virginia Campaign has unveiled three new spots.
Kaine, Virginia’s junior senator since 2013, is favored to win his race against Republican challenger Hung Cao, with several July polls suggesting Kaine has a double-digit lead.
