The popular syndicated television series “Extra” is coming to audio. Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, in association with Telepictures, is launching the weekly series Extra: The Podcast, to extend the brand of the TV show as well as reach a younger audience than what early-fringe local television can offer in 2023. It is teaming up with Audacy to distribute the show, a move that will also see Warner Bros.’ True Crime Daily: The Podcast join the Audacy portfolio.
The new Extra: The Podcast launches as the show marks three decades on television. The hosts talk to celebrities and newsmakers for breaking entertainment news, pop culture headlines, and behind-the-scenes information from Hollywood’s biggest TV series and movies. But with just 30-minutes, including commercials, a lot is left on the cutting room floor. The creators of the podcast say the new audio outlet will give listeners the opportunity to hear more of the conversations and go more in-depth and feature moments that did make the TV Show.
“Our team of Hollywood insiders are making headlines daily and getting the biggest celebrities. The podcast will allow us to feature extended interviews not seen in the show and exclusive content not heard anywhere else,” said Jeremy Spiegel and Theresa Coffino, the Executive Producers of the “Extra” TV show.
Extra: The Podcast is hosted by “Extra” senior correspondent and weekend co-host Melvin Robert. The series will debut Wednesday, Sept. 13. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays.
In addition to Extra: The Podcast, the Warner Bros.-Telepictures weekly true crime series True Crime Daily: The Podcast is now also part of the Audacy portfolio. Hosted by Ana Garcia, True Crime Daily goes in-depth on some of the week’s biggest true crime stories, as well as the ones that listeners might have missed, drawing the largest and most active true crime digital community in the world. New episodes of True Crime Daily are released on Tuesdays and Fridays.
“We’re so excited to partner with Telepictures and ‘Extra,’ the leading name in celebrity and entertainment news, and to celebrate the launch of the show’s 30th season,” said Jenna Weiss-Berman, Executive VP of Podcasts at Audacy. “The podcast companions of ‘Extra’ and ‘True Crime Daily’ will deliver informative, compelling content to listeners across the country.”
