In celebration of DNA Day, April 25, Kira Dineen, host of the DNA Today podcast, is launching Gene Pool Media. The new science podcast network says the shows under the banner will explore and educate listeners on a wide range of topics including genetics, rare diseases, pharmaceuticals, genomic medicine, patient advocacy, and science careers.
"As someone who has spent over a decade producing and hosting science podcasts, the creation of Gene Pool Media is a natural next step for me," says Dineen. " Having these shows under one network makes perfect sense, as each podcast has a unique angle but all share a commitment to advancing our understanding of genetics and healthcare.”
The network launches with podcasts including not only DNA Today, but also RealPharma, #ThroughTheGenes, It Happened To Me, DNA Dialogues, Demystifying Genetics, All Access DNA, and PhenoTips Speaker Series.
The subject matter may seem niche at first glance, but the Dineen-hosted DNA Today has had more than one million lifetime downloads since it debuted in 2012 and the show has attracted over 80 sponsors, including Johns Hopkins, Illumina, and Quest Diagnostics.
Gene Pool Media says several new shows are also set to launch later this year. Upcoming shows include one exploring the intersection of health science and religion, while another will provide a platform for voices in the rare disease community.
“This new network will not only allow us to continue producing high-quality, educational content but also bring together a community of voices that will collaborate to elevate science communication,” Dineen says.
