Comedians Dana Carvey and David Spade launched their Fly on the Wall podcast three years ago. Under a multi-year contract extension with Audacy, they will continue to produce the show as well as expand its format into what the company says will be a “unified video and audio podcast experience” for fans. The same will be done for its spin-off Superfly podcast series.
The podcasts will merge into a single show as part of their pivot. Audacy says they will then expand to full video for all episodes later this year. Carvey and Spade will also incorporate interactive elements into the combined audio and video format, including fan-submitted questions.
Fly on the Wall takes listeners behind the curtain of showbiz as Carvey and Spade hang out and chat with friends from all corners of the comedy and entertainment world. The companion Superfly launched last year, and it showcases Carvey and Spade riffing on current events, viral social clips, pop culture moments, and audience submissions with their trademark absurdity, sharp impressions, and semi-regular guest appearances. The Superfly content will now become a new Monday episode of Fly on the Wall, with the flagship show continuing its Thursday release.
The shows have proven to be hits with listeners, generated more than 100 million combined downloads. And Fly on the Wall earned an iHeartPodcast Award for Best Comedy Podcast earlier this year.
“Dana and David have built one of the most engaging, successful comedy podcasts in the space, and the momentum only continues to grow,” said Leah Reis-Dennis, Head of Podcasts at Audacy and an executive producer of the series alongside Spade and Carvey. “We’re thrilled to take this next step with them and bring their content and community to life in new ways,” she says in the announcement.
The new season of Fly on the Wall debuts June 26 with actress Julie Bowen as its guest. And beginning June 30, new episodes will be released weekly on Mondays and Thursdays.
Carvey is an actor, comedian and screenwriter who was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” for seven seasons, from 1986 to 1993. Spade is an actor, comedian, writer and producer. He was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” from 1990 to 1996.
