Daily Wire Elevates Former 'Jeopardy!' Producer Mike Richards To Top Content Role.

The Daily Wire has reportedly turned to a former podcaster and television executive to bolster its management team. Mike Richards has been named President and Chief Content Officer of the conservative media outlet, where he will be at the helm of Daily Wire’s podcast, entertainment, and talent development efforts.

Richards is a former podcaster, having hosted a series called The Randumb Show in 2014. But he is best known for his work in television, including as executive producer of the gameshow “Jeopardy!” — as well as a brief stint as host in 2021. “Throughout his extensive and impressive career Richards has produced over 4,000 hours of network programming with some of the most iconic game shows in the world,” Daily Wire says in the announcement. In addition to “Jeopardy!” those TV shows include “The Price Is Right,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”

The promotion of Richards is the latest executive change for The Daily Wire. Co-founder Jeremy Boreing stepped down as co-CEO in March, where he worked alongside co-CEO Caleb Robinson, who now holds the position on his own. Boreing remains with the company in an advisory role.

The Daily Wire says Richards is currently exploring several new talent acquisitions. It didn’t offer any hints, but it says they range from well-known figures in the new media space to growing influencers in the conservative movement.

Richards joined The Daily Wire team in December and is credited with already making several moves. That includes the addition of video to the Morning Wire daily news podcast in April. Since that element was added, Morning Wire jumped into Podtrac’s ranking of the top 20 shows last month.

Daily Wire will this weekend also see psychologist Jordan Peterson expand beyond his regular podcast to launch a special five-part series on parenting. The show will draw on his decades of clinical practice to offer essential guidance on raising children, including the core principles every parent must understand — what it means to be a father, what it means to be a mother, and how to help your child become someone capable of adventure, accountability and purpose.

There is also a lot more of Ben Shapiro to be found. First, The Ben Shapiro Show was extended by a half hour earlier this month with 90-minute episodes released each weekday. And Daily Wire also launched Ben After Dark. What started as a 12-minute monologue has now mutated into a full-length, members-only weekly show that embraces a late-night talk show-style program with unscreened guests, unsolicited opinions, and unchecked sarcasm. It launched last Friday on Daily Wire+ feed.

Richards’ hiring is also giving The Daily Wire a fresh opportunity to demonstrate its “anti-woke” stance. When Richards was named to host “Jeopardy!” in 2021 following the death of Alex Trebek, an investigation by The Ringer revealed 10-year-old comments that many considered sexist. Richards apologized at the time, calling them “a terribly embarrassing moment of misjudgment, thoughtlessness, and insensitivity.” But producer Sony Pictures Television pulled him off the air, and Richards decided that he would not return to his earlier post as executive producer of the TV show.

A Daily Wire rep told the Hollywood Reporter that a decision to “cancel” such a successful producer of television will only benefit their business going forward. “Thank you to the purple hairs,” she said.
