Curtis Sliwa Returns To NYC Radio; Teams With Larry Mendte On WOR Morning Show.

iHeartMedia New York is adding a familiar and unmistakably New York voice to morning on talk WOR (710).

The station announced that Curtis Sliwa will join its weekday lineup beginning Monday, March 9, co-hosting “Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning” from 6-10am. He will team with Larry Mendte, creating what the station describes as a high-energy blend of veteran journalism and streetwise perspective aimed at the tri-state area’s morning commuters.

Sliwa’s return to full-time talk radio comes four months after the conclusion of New York City’s mayoral election, in which he was a candidate. He took a leave of absence from his role at Red Apple Media’s crosstown talk WABC (770) for his political run and then vowed to never return to the station after owner John Catsimatidis publicly asked him to step down from the race in an effort to help the chances of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“It’s been four months since the end of the New York City Mayoral election and most places I go people have asked me to come back to talk radio, so that’s what I’m going to do,” Sliwa said in the announcement. “I’m going to the best radio station in New York City, joining my friends of 30 years Mark Simone and Sean Hannity. It’s a full circle moment for me as my first radio station appearance was in 1971 when WOR’s Arlene Francis interviewed me as a kid, and I’ve been talking on the radio since.”

Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels and a fixture on New York talk radio for more than 35 years, is paired with Mendte, a 97-time Emmy-winning television anchor who joined WOR’s on-air team in 2023.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Mendte added. “Curtis is not only a legendary talk radio host, but an iconic New Yorker. What an honor to get to team up with him to get New Yorkers started every weekday.”

Gracie Award winner and 29-year WOR veteran Natalie Vacca has been named Executive Producer of the new program.
