CurtCo Media is launching its first scripted podcast, Solar, starring Tony Award-winner Alan Cumming and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz. Production for the dozen 30- to 45-minute episodes is currently underway with the show set to premiere on all podcasting platforms this summer. “This, CurtCo’s first announced scripted series has been two years in the making,” said CEO Bill Curtis.
Created by Chris Porter and directed by Porter and Jenny Curtis, sci-fi Solar explores the journey of spacecraft crew members fighting for survival following a disaster on board the ill-fated Aethon, a manned solar research mission. As painful memories, forgotten dreams, technological challenges and blunt realities collide, the crew must work together to keep their hopes alive in the face of growing darkness. Each episode takes listeners on a sonic thrill ride that examines the vastness of the human spirit.
The cast includes Jonathan Bangs, Colin Ford (Daybreak), Danielle Pinnock (Young Sheldon), Anne Yatco, and Jenny Curtis round out the cast with additional performances by Dana Gourrier (The United States vs Billie Holiday, Django Unchained), Micky Shiloah, Joseph Reitman, and emerging talent Jake Millgard, Nikhil Pai, Joy Brunson, Emily Goss, and Tom Choi.
“We are fortunate to combine Chris Porter’s brilliant script with so many truly world class actors in season one of our series – presented in fully surround-staged sound design.,” said Curtis. “While entertainment concepts and venues are still challenged, we’re excited to bring a new kind of suspenseful blockbuster to summer podcast audiences.”
Last month CurtCo Medi announced it had entered a strategic alliance with radio broadcaster SummitMedia. The radio company, which owns and operates 47 radio stations in nine states, has made an undisclosed financial investment in CurtCo, with several other investors also part of the Series A financing round. The move puts SummitMedia in alliance with a network which is home to a number of podcast series including Meet Me in the Middle, Medicine, We’re Still Practicing, Cars That Matter, A Moment of Your Time, A Moment For Kids and Life Done Better with Supermodel Jill de Jong.
