‘Country Legends & Texas Classics’ Makes DFW Debut.

Cumulus Media debuts a new HD channel for the Dallas-Fort Worth market with the launch of “Country Legends & Texas Classics 93.3 HD2” WBAP-HD2. George Strait’s “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” ushered in the new classic country outlet at noon today (Dec. 15).

The new station will feature country favorites from artists including Strait, Willie Nelson, Alabama, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, and Reba McIntyre, among many others.

“We are doubling down on our long-term commitment to country music in Texas by launching Country Legends & Texas Classics 93.3 HD2,” Dan Bennett, Regional Vice President, Cumulus Dallas, said. “This station will give a voice to great country hits from the 70s and 80s. Paired with our fan favorite DFW country stations, “99.5 The Wolf” (KPLX) and “New Country 96.3” (KSCS), this creates a wall of country for our station group and for the passionate country music lovers in the DFW area and strengthens our belief in this incredible format.”

In other station news, market veteran Blake Powers joins KSCS and KPLX for weekends and fill-ins. Powers, who was previously heard on KLUV (98.7), KVIL-FM (103.7) and KLTY (94.9) told Inside Radio, “After being away from home (DFW) for 3.5 years, working in Las Vegas and with Cumulus Media Columbia, SC, I have returned to stay... Thank you to Cumulus Dallas GM Dan Bennett, KSCS/KPLX Program Director Mike Preston, KSCS APD/MD/PM Drive Personality Al Farb, and all of Cumulus Media, for welcoming me home and back to the company. Time to have fun again on the Radio with a market I love!”

Powers previous country radio experience includes roles at “106.5 The Wolf” WDAF Kansas City and “Y108” WDSY Pittsburgh. He is also heard on Westwood One’s country, hot AC, AC, and classic hits networks.
