Charlamagne Tha God Moves Into Movies With New Production Company.

Charlamagne Tha God has already gone beyond his syndicated radio show to launch the Black Effect Podcast Network. Now he is looking to have a hand in what turns up on movie and television screens. Charlamagne has reportedly teamed up with film producer Basil Iwanyk to create the production company Southland Stories. As its name implies, the focus of the company will be on telling stories from the South. It is a region Charlamange knows well, having grown up in Moncks Corner, SC, and launching his radio career in Charleston and Columbia, SC.

“Basil Iwanyk and I got a pretty cool film production company we created. I think you going to like some of our projects,” Charlamagne wrote in an Instagram post.

The first project according to Variety will be a thriller titled “True Threat” that is scheduled to go into production this summer. The movie follows a special forces operative played by actor Jonathan Majors who is out for vengeance after his teenage son is killed by gang members. Charlamagne tells the magazine that Southland Stories will produce projects across a variety of subjects, but with a common goal of showing that Black creatives can thrive across all genres.

Branching out into new mediums is nothing new for Charlamagne. He teamed up with iHeartMedia in September 2020 to launch the Black Effect Podcast Network. Five years later, Black Effect Podcast Network has surpassed more than one billion downloads to a lineup of 47 shows curated by Charlamagne. It also includes the on-demand version of his syndicated morning radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” based at iHeart’s “Power 105.1” WWPR-FM New York.

Charlamagne is also a minority owner in Reasoned Choice Media, another iHeart-backed podcast network, which launched last year and focuses on politics and policy issues.
