More than a year after making broadcast radio part of its media mix, Get Upside is the week’s top radio advertiser. The app from Upside Services that partners with businesses to give cash back on everyday purchases ran 74,227 spots the week of May 30-June 5 in markets tracked by Media Monitors to advance 2-1. It has been a relatively quick ride to the apex.
Upside Services launched its first spot radio campaign in November 2020 and has been a consistent user ever since. It ranked as high as No. 2 at the end of 2021 and has spent most of 2022 in the top five.
DuckDuckGo, another advertiser in the Wireless & Internet Service category, is the week’s other big mover in the upper reaches of the chart, jumping 24-6 with 34,527 spot occurrences. It marks the online privacy services provider’s first trek back into the top 10 since the week of Feb. 7-13, 2022.
Meanwhile, DQ Dairy Queen is back in the top 10, this time at No.7 for another finish atop the Fast Casual-Quick Service Restaurants category. As springtime has on the go listeners looking to drive in and refuel, the fast feeders occupy nine positions in the Top 100, including Wendy’s at 16, Taco Bell at 29, perennial leader McDonald’s at 33, Chick-fil-A at 39, Panera Bread at 54, Dunkin at 72, Church’s Chicken at 86 and KFC at 87.
Wireless carriers are also using the AM/FM airwaves to lure new subscribers and build market share, led by TracFone Wireless’s Straight Talk at No. 10. Dish Wireless’ Boost Mobile is at No. 21, T-Mobile USA has two brands on the tally – T-Mobile at 36 and Metro By T-Mobile at 48. They’re joined by Verizon Communications’ Verizon Wireless at 52and Tracfone Wireless’ Tracfone at 64.
The Home Depot, which owned the pole position last week, has pulled back but keeps a steady presence at No. 13 with 28,576 spots.
For the week of May 30-June 5, 2022, the top ten on the Media Monitors tally are Upside at 1, iHeartRadio at 2, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 3, Indeed at 4, Babbel at 5, DuckDuckGo at 6, DQ Dairy Queen at 7, Zip Recruiter at 8, the “Betrayal” podcast at 9 and Straight Talk at 10.
