Breakout Period Drama ‘Downton Abbey’ Is Coming To Podcasting.


As it heads to movie theaters Downton Abbey is also making the move into podcasting. The period drama is getting an official rewatch series with Downton Abbey: The Official Podcast. The weekly series is hosted by Rotten Tomatoes awards editor Jacqueline Coley and British radio and television personality Anita Rani. It will feature interviews and unrivalled behind-the-scenes access to the cast and creatives behind the British TV phenomenon.


“With exclusive interviews from Downton cast members and creators, the podcast will dive into the secrets of the franchise, going deep into what makes these characters tick, before taking a look at what happens to the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the hotly anticipated new film, Downton Abbey: A New Era,” its creators said in the announcement.


The rewatch podcast will cover every episode of the ITV hit that found an audience in the U.S. on PBS. It focuses on the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their staff of servants at the Downton Abbey estate during the 1910s and ’20s. Coley and Rani will cover the show weekly, diving into the large ensemble cast of characters and revealing behind-the-scenes anecdotes and secrets from the beloved series. The podcast launches this Tuesday and will include an exclusive look at the upcoming film.


Podcast guests will include Downton favorites Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Allen Leech, Elizabeth McGovern, Lesley Nicol, Penelope Wilton, Michael Fox, new cast member Dominic West and writer Julian Fellowes, and the incredible team behind Downton Abbey including producers Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge, historical consultant Alastair Bruce, costume designer Anna Mary Scott Robbins, production designer Donal Woods, casting director Jill Trevellick, as well as Downton Abbey: A New Era director Simon Curtis.


Downton Abbey: The Official Podcast is produced by Limina House, Gobsmack Studios and Somethin’ Else in association with Carnival Films, Focus Features and Universal Pictures.


The podcast is timed with the release of the feature film “Downton Abbey: A New Era.” The much-anticipated cinematic return of the global phenomenon reunites the beloved cast as they go on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa. It will be released in the U.K. on April 29 and in U.S. theaters on May 20.
