BIN, Real Times, iHeartMedia Partner For Expanded News Coverage.

BIN: Black Information Network and multimedia content provider Real Times Media (RTM) have announced a news sharing and distribution partnership aimed at further expanding coverage of local news important to the Black community in and beyond BIN's radio affiliate markets. Under the agreement, iHeartMedia, which owns and distributes BIN's 24/7 national audio news network on broadcast radio and through its iHeartRadio app, will source and distribute news stories from RTM's publications across BIN's radio stations and sites, while RTM will source and distribute BIN news, entertainment and sports stories.

The partnership, which expands upon BIN's recent announcement to increase local news coverage in all 32 affiliate markets starting in January 2022, also includes Detroit-based RTM – parent to eight news, custom content and activation properties focused on amplifying Black voices, including The Atlanta Daily World and Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine, The Chicago Defender, The Michigan Chronicle and The New Pittsburgh Courier – placing BIN’s audio widget, a source of 24/7 audio coverage, on their digital properties. In addition, iHeartMedia will distribute RTM news on BIN's three news websites, and, where applicable, convert RTM stories into audio reporting.

“From the start, our goal at BIN has been to celebrate and invest in the Black community and shine a light on our most important stories,” BIN: Black Information Network President Tony Coles says. “This exciting new partnership allows us to extend our commitment to expanding local journalism, benefitting Black communities all across the country.”

Adds Real Times Media CEO Hiram E. Jackson, “Our RTM brands have decades-long reputations within the community as trusted, valued resources for local Black news and perspective. However, we also know that we cannot rest on our legacies to remain successful in an industry that changes every day. Partnering with a progressive, undeniable force like BIN gives us the momentum and reach we need to continue to aggressively chase the future.”

Since launching in June 2020 as the first-of-its-kind 24/7 national and local all-news audio network serving the Black community, BIN: Black Information Network has expanded to 32 affiliate markets including New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Seattle, Cleveland, Nashville and New Orleans.
