This unusual Presidential election year is seeing a significant share of weekly AM/FM listeners — 70% of listeners to radio and 80% of radio streamers — actively tuning in to election news on the radio, based on a survey of close to 1,000 Americans 18+ conducted by Audacy during August.
According to Audacy’s Election Tracker, 46% of listeners say they have been following election news closely for more than three months, while 74% say local radio helps them grasp how election results impact their communities.
It may be Vice President Kamala Harris’ having replaced President Biden as the Democratic candidate for President that has 38% of women surveyed saying they are more motivated to vote than before, vs. 30% of men. Meanwhile, 68% of audio consumers say they identify as moderates or centrists on social topics and issues.
“As we navigate an era of rapid change and heightened political awareness, the power of radio remains undeniable,” Audacy’s report says. “Its ability to inform, engage, and motivate listeners makes it a vital force in shaping public opinion and driving voter turnout. For political leaders and candidates, understanding the preferences and motivations of these engaged radio audiences will be key to reaching and influencing the heart of the American electorate. Radio not only amplifies the voices of its listeners but also echoes the democratic spirit of participation and change.”
