Apple Pushes Deeper Into Video Podcasting With Mac, tvOS Upgrades.

Apple is continuing its push into video podcasting, announcing at WWDC that Apple Podcasts will add video podcast support to both Mac and Apple TV this fall, extending a feature that has until now been largely centered on iPhone and iPad users.

The expansion is part of a broader slate of services updates unveiled by Apple this week, but for podcast creators it signals the company’s continued investment in video as consumption habits increasingly shift beyond audio-only listening.

On Mac, Apple says users will be able to watch video podcasts through a redesigned Apple Podcasts experience that includes Picture-in-Picture support, allowing viewers to continue watching episodes while multitasking. Video podcasts will also integrate with features already available in Apple Podcasts, including transcripts, timed links and chapter markers.

Apple is also bringing video podcast playback to tvOS, giving Apple TV users a dedicated video podcast experience on the big screen. The redesigned Apple Podcasts app will feature sidebar navigation for browsing and support creators’ custom show and episode artwork. Apple says the changes are intended to make discovering and viewing podcast content easier from the living room.

The move comes as video has become one of the biggest growth areas in podcasting. Spotify has aggressively expanded video podcast support during the past year, while YouTube has emerged as a major podcast consumption platform. Apple’s latest update suggests it sees video as an increasingly important part of the podcast ecosystem rather than a separate category of content.

Apple also announced a new search-within-show feature that will allow listeners to search directly within a podcast’s episode archive. The tool will be available across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro and the web version of Apple Podcasts, helping users locate specific episodes more quickly.

In announcing the updates, Apple Services chief Eddy Cue said the company remains committed to expanding podcast capabilities as part of its broader services strategy. He cited “the continued expansion of video podcasts in Apple Podcasts on Mac and in tvOS” among the new features coming this fall.

The new podcast features are currently available to developers for testing and will be released publicly as part of Apple’s next generation software updates later this year.
