Online retailers are poised for a strong Memorial Day holiday weekend as consumers continue seeking discounts on major household purchases, apparel and seasonal merchandise, according to new projections from Adobe.
Adobe estimates consumers will spend $10.8 billion online during the three-day Memorial Day weekend running May 23-25, representing a 6% increase from the same holiday period a year ago. For the entire month of May, the company forecasts online spending will total $99.7 billion, up 7.1% vs. May 2025.
The anticipated sales gains come as retailers expand promotional activity and shoppers increasingly look for discounts on products they have already planned to purchase. Adobe said consumers are expected to find markdowns ranging from 8% to 10% across several major e-commerce categories during the holiday weekend.
Electronics and sporting goods are projected to see discounts of about 10% on May 23, while televisions are expected to be marked down by roughly 8%. Furniture and bedding discounts are forecast to reach 10% on May 24, alongside 8% markdowns on appliances and toys. On Memorial Day itself, apparel discounts are expected to average 10%, while home and garden products are projected to be discounted by about 9%.
Large appliances are expected to rank among the strongest-performing categories during Memorial Day promotions. Adobe forecasts online sales of air conditioners will rise 170% to 200% vs. April 2026 levels, while grills and smokers are projected to increase 130% to 170%. Vacuum cleaner sales are expected to climb 70% to 90%, and refrigerator and freezer sales are forecast to rise 55% to 75%.
Seasonal and outdoor products also are expected to post strong gains. Bicycle sales are projected to jump 140% to 160%, while pool equipment and camping gear are forecast to increase 110% to 140%.
Furniture and home-related purchases are also expected to remain strong throughout the holiday shopping period. Adobe projects mattress sales will rise 150% to 170%, while patio furniture sales are forecast to increase 90% to 110%. Bedroom furniture sales are expected to post gains ranging from 70% to 100%.
Consumer electronics are also anticipated to benefit from Memorial Day promotions. Television sales are projected to rise 100% to 120%, while smartwatches, fitness trackers and smartphones are all expected to post sizable online sales increases vs. April levels.
