Winn-Dixie has rolled out a discount campaign called “Down Down” that offers more than 15% off on average on some of the retailer’s most popular national brand and private label products, as well as fresh items such as produce, dairy products and oven-roasted deli chicken. Online shoppers can also take advantage of “Down Down” promotions and can get free delivery or pickup on orders of $35 or more for a limited time... El Pollo Loco’s promotion of Overstuffed Quesadillas during Q4 helped drive sales, and the chain expects to roll out other promotions as part of a push to keep younger and lower-income customers coming back. The chain also promoted Fire-Grilled Combo meals with a starting price of $5 and Family Feast deals for $24.
Macy’s, Ulta Beauty and Sephora are among the retailers that have pledged to fill at least 15% of their shelf space with Black-owned brands. Target is investing more than $2 billion by 2025 in Black-owned businesses and Walmart has donated $2.9 million in grants to provide assistance for Black business owners. The Black Beauty Collective will open a flagship in Chicago next month as a marketplace exclusively for Black-owned beauty brands.
Lowe’s is enhancing its inventory distribution capabilities by opening more warehouses that store off-season goods as part of a $1.7 billion supply chain investment that focuses heavily on online order fulfillment… REI Co-op is expanding its footprint in the Sunshine State. The specialty outdoor retailer will open a store at University Town Center in Sarasota, Fla., in fall 2023. The 25,000-square-foot location will offer a wide assortment of apparel, gear and expertise for camping, cycling, running, fitness, hiking, paddling, climbing and more. It will also feature a service bike shop staffed by certified mechanics. The Sarasota location will be REI’s eighth store in Florida… Buc-ee’s expansion into new states marches on with new locations proposed for Virginia and Wisconsin. The Texas-based travel center operator recently submitted a conditional use permit in Virginia’s New Kent County, outlining plans to to open a 74,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s with 120 fueling stations and 557 parking spaces at the Exit 211 interchange off Interstate 64. Buc-ee’s is also planning its first Wisconsin site in DeForest, located approximately 16 miles north of Madison.
Kia America said it will recall more than 188,000 K5 midsize sedans in the U.S. over side curtain airbags that were installed incorrectly, causing them to not deploy properly during a crash. The recall covers certain 2021-23 K5 vehicles. The K5 was formerly called the Optima and received the new name in 2021. No injuries have been reported as a result of the defect, according to NHTSA... Ford Motor is resuming production of F-150 Lightning vehicles this week after the No. 2 U.S. automaker recalled 18 electric trucks due to a battery cell manufacturing defect.
