Arby’s is celebrating football season and its brand positioning as meat experts with the launch of the Big Game Burger. The burger is a blend of two types of big game, venison and elk, plus ground beef. That’s cooked in sous-vide in advance and then fried to order, as Arby’s restaurants do not have grills or griddles. The burger is then topped with fried onions, pickles, Swiss cheese and a game-meat-friendly cherry steak sauce. It will be priced starting at $8.79... Doherty Enterprises, the Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar franchisee, has officially opened a first-of-its-kind To Go version of the traditional casual-dining concept. The Allendale, N.J.-based company, which has its own concepts as well as franchised units of Applebee’s and Chevys Fresh Mex, said the new To Go unit in Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y., will have few seats and no table service. It will instead opt for technology, designed to maximize the speed of delivery through Applebees.com and for partners such as Uber Eats, DoorDash and GrubHub... Walgreens is launching a new initiative in collaboration with online prescription drug savings platform GoodRx that’s designed to reduce prices on nearly 200 prescription medications by an average of 40%, with higher savings available for select medications. Consumers can now purchase many prescriptions at Walgreens for less than $15 for a 30-day fill, without any deductibles, restrictions, paperwork, approvals or quantity limitations... The maker of Twinkies is changing hands. The J.M. Smucker Co. has agreed to acquire Hostess Brands for $5.6 billion, including debt, in a deal that will tie up two major American snack makers. The acquisition will expand J.M. Smucker’s offering of brands in growing categories and accelerates its focus on convenient consumer occasions, the company said... Some Banana Republic stores have begun selling furniture and home goods under the BR Home brand, which the Gap-owned fashion and lifestyle retailer added to its repertoire this month. The BR Home collection is available online and in 19 Banana Republic locations in seven states, including Dallas and Houston, and the company is also planning pop-up stores in Los Angeles and New York… HomeGoods, Marshalls and T.J. Maxx are leveraging their established mix of discounted national brands and surprising finds to grow sales, traffic and profitability for parent company TJX. Buyers cultivate the offerings with extensive training in trends and value, so they can take calculated risks, board chair and former CEO Carol Meyrowitz says… Alfa Romeo is in the midst of a brand evolution that includes delving into electrification this year with the Tonale, its first plug-in hybrid and last new model with an internal combustion engine. The brand plans to go all-electric by 2027. With the Tonale trickling into dealerships, the company expects growth in volume and market share to follow. The automaker said the brand’s average transaction price has risen 26% since 2021.
