Amazon is set to hit a major milestone in 2024: Becoming the largest retailer in the U.S., according to analysts at JPMorgan. If this comes to pass, Amazon will be unseating Walmart as the nation’s largest retailer. It would be a seismic shift, one driven by increased e-commerce penetration, faster delivery times, and the stickiness of Amazon Prime. JPMorgan estimates show that, in 2023, Amazon’s gross merchandise volume, or GMV, will grow 11.6% year-over-year to $477 billion... Staples is providing customers with access to round-the-clock computer support. The specialty office supply giant is introducing Total Support Plans, designed to protect customers who buy computers from viruses, identity theft, crashed laptops, accidents and more, with a live agent available at any time of day. Customers who purchase a new computer at Staples or have an existing computer can select from one of three plans, which all include varying levels of hardware and software protection and daily maintenance. All three of the plan levels come with unlimited virus removals at one price with no extra fees or deductibles, starting at $199.99.
DTC men’s grooming brand Manscaped has formed a wholesale partnership with Tailored Brands to launch products in the company’s Men’s Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank stores. Manscaped grooming tools are now available in 300 Men’s Wearhouse and 175 Jos. A. Bank stores across the U.S. as well as the retailers’ websites. Manscaped sells its DTC products in 39 countries and on Amazon in 100 countries. Other retail U.S. partners include Target, Best Buy, Macy’s, Walgreens and Military Exchanges.
Costco is stepping up membership-policy enforcement after noticing more non-members using members’ Costco cards, particularly in self-checkout lanes. Employees have begun asking to see not only member cards but also photo IDs at self-service registers... Fifty Kohl’s stores with an average size of 35,000 square feet are set to open 750-square-foot Sephora shops in the fall. Typical Sephora shops-within-a-shop claim 2,500 square feet of the total 80,000, which is average for a full-size Kohl’s.
Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer promised to make vehicles easier for drivers and passengers to use, saying touch-sensitive controls “did a lot of damage” to its relationship with customers. Schäfer said the updated cabin of the Tiguan crossover shows the brand’s move away from controls that have been widely criticized as confusing and difficult to operate while driving. The Tiguan eliminates climate-control sliders and haptic steering-wheel buttons... Honda Motor is recalling 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential issue with the rearview camera image, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. The recall covers some 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display.
