Amazon plans to lay off 9,000 corporate and tech workers by the end of April, adding to the 18,000 roles it already cut late last year and this January. The new layoffs, which amount to less than 3% of its corporate workforce, will target workers in some of Amazon’s most profitable divisions, which had previously been spared, including its cloud computing business and advertising operations... A group of 22 U.S. state attorneys general urged Hyundai and Kia to do more to address millions of U.S. vehicles that are prone to theft. Last month, the Korean automakers said they would offer software upgrades to 8.3 million U.S. vehicles to help curb increasing car thefts using a method popularized on social media channels... Williams-Sonoma reported a 6% rise in fiscal Q4 sales at its Pottery Barn banner, partially offsetting a dip at sibling brand West Elm, and the retailer reported record revenue and earnings for the full year.

CNBC reports that retailers are using a variety of strategies to position themselves for growth this year, including Walmart, Costco, and Macy’s-owned Bloomingdale’s, which are elevating their loyalty programs. Target is stocking up on the essential items’ inflation-weary shoppers are expected to spend on in 2023, Kroger is touting its private-label Smart Way brand of lower-priced grocery basics and Best Buy is promoting phone and video game upgrades... Foot Locker reported a stronger-than-expected Q4 and plans to increase focus on its core banners and a shift in its real estate strategy. As part of its new “Lace Up” plan, the athletic footwear giant said it’s relaunching its Foot Locker brand and transforming its real estate footprint by shifting to off-mall locations and opening new formats. It also is closing some 400 underperforming stores.

Grocery retailers were scrambling over the weekend to remove frozen fruit products that were contaminated, according to the FDA. Frozen organic strawberries from Scenic Fruit Company were said to carry a possible hepatitis A contamination. The fruit can be found at Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Aldi. The frozen strawberries went under the brand names of Kirkland, Simply Nature, Made With, and PCC Community Markets. Trader Joe’s organic tropical blend also may have been affected.
