ABC Adapts Hit True Crime ‘Betrayal’ Podcast For Primetime TV.

The podcast “Betrayal” is making the leap to primetime television. ABC-TV will debut the weekly docuseries “Betrayal: Secrets & Lies” next Sunday (March 29) with an ABC News Studios production that is leaning into the reporting done for the four-year-old true crime series from by Glass Entertainment and iHeartPodcasts.

The initial broadcast run will include eight episodes, each of which will follow lives undone by unthinkable betrayals and the courage it takes to survive scandalous confessions, secret lives, terrifying acts of violence and financial ruin. The podcast, which debuted in April 2022, has plenty of content to leverage, as it has shared stories with listeners describing itself as a “cautionary tale about a marriage.” In the TV show’s premiere episode, “Fertility Fraud,” Tina’s relationship with Neil makes her feel alive after her first marriage ends. It’s fun and carefree until an unexpected pregnancy sours the relationship. When Tina digs into his past, she uncovers a trail of fraud, deception and women seeking justice. It is based on a story told in season five of the “Betrayal” podcast.

After the show airs each Sunday night on ABC-TV, episodes of “Betrayal: Secrets & Lies” will be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. After more than 90 million listens, the podcast was adapted by ABC News Studios with three seasons of the popular docuseries already streaming on Hulu. Glass Podcasts has adapted five of its shows into popular docuseries.

“Betrayal: Secrets and Lies” is produced by Glass Entertainment and ABC News Studios. Nancy Glass and Jon Hirsch are executive producers for Glass Entertainment. iHeartMedia Digital Audio Group CEO Conal Byrne is executive producer for iHeartPodcasts.
