The Pushkin Industries and iHeartMedia partnership announced last fall has brought the first coproduction on a series. Be Antiracist will debut next month hosted by historian Ibram X. Kendi. He is an author and founding director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research.
The weekly podcast will feature Kendi in conversations about racial justice and inequity. Deadline, which first reported news of the show, also said it will discuss ideas for police reforms. “After a year that laid bare the pervasive racial inequity that continues to plague our nation, we must continue the difficult but necessary conversations that will allow us to imagine and erect a truly antiracist society,” said Kendi in the announcement. “I look forward to exploring these topics with guests whose work I deeply admire and digging deep with them and with listeners.”
Pushkin Industries CEO Jacob Weisberg said Kendi’s books have ignited conversation about race relations as Kendi has emerged as America’s most influential thinker on race, racism, and anti-racism. “We hope the show will empower listeners to effect change in their own communities and beyond,” said Weisberg.
Be Antiracist is set to debut June 9. It will be distributed by the iHeartPodcast Network to all podcast platforms.
“Be Antiracist with Ibram X. Kendi will bring Dr. Kendi’s essential insights to millions of listeners around the world,” said iHeartPodcast Network COO Will Pearson. “The show speaks to many of the deeply-rooted issues the past year has brought to light and enables listeners to benefit from the perspectives of some truly unparalleled guests.”
Pushkin Industries teamed up with iHeartMedia in November. Under the agreement, Pushkin and the iHeartPodcast Network will also co-produce a slate of new, original podcasts over the next two years. And iHeart will become the exclusive sales partner for Pushkin’s catalog of podcasts.
