Podcast analytic platform Podtrac has published their year-end ranking of the Top 25 New Podcasts for 2023, based on average downloads per episode.The 2023 list is headed up by Scamanda from Lionsgate Sound, followed by The Retrievals (Serial Productions), The Coldest Case in Laramie (Serial Productions), The Girl in the Blue Mustang (NBC News) and Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Lemonada Media).
Scamanda was reviewed by PODCASTGEEK.BLOG when it was released in May. The Geek is a big fan, writing, "This is the mark of a brilliantly created podcast. There are parts that are shocking, parts that are depressing, and parts that broke my heart. Ultimately though, this is an incredible story that will have you gripped until the very end."
Number 2 on the list, The Retrievals, received a glowing review from Nicholas Quah of Vulture, who writes, "The Retrievals is simply incredible. I can’t stop thinking about it. The Retrievals is less of a traditional investigative piece than one might expect. But what’s so formalistically intriguing is the way The Retrievals favors a softer touch. Burton functions as an empathetic observer shepherding the tale with discernible distance. The Retrievals, to me at least, is how its quiet approach does allow for a somewhat ambiguous mental space where one can mull over murkier territory."
