The war in Ukraine dominated headlines during March and that gave Fox News Radio’s on-demand version of its hourly newscast a bump in Podtrac’s monthly ranker of the most listened-to podcasts. The Fox News Radio podcast jumped to No. 6, its best showing to date. Three other news podcasts remained at the top according to Podtrac, which says The Dailyheld onto the top spot, followed by NPR’s hourly five-minute podcast NPR News Now and the public radio network’s morning news podcast Up First in third.
Rounding out the top five were Dateline NBC at No. 4 and The Daily Wire’s conservative talk The Ben Shapiro Show at No. 5. While the top five were each in the same position in February as they were in every month since July 2021, the jump by Fox News Radio pushed back the Wondery series SmartLess to No. 8, with This American Life also sliding back one.
The biggest winner among the top 20 shows measured by Podtrac was PodcastOne’s The Jordan Harbinger Show, which jumped six to No. 16. The biggest drop came from the show that had February’s biggest move up -- Meadowlark Media’s The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, which slid back to No. 20. And falling out of the top 20 was Serial Production’s The Trojan Horse Affair.
Podtrac says global downloads for the top 20 publishers overall jumped 13% percent month-over-month during March. And they were up 50% compared to the download numbers from a year earlier.
