Conservative Talk Radio Host Clay Travis Says He’s Being Targeted By The IRS.

Clay Travis claims he is being audited by the IRS due to his role as a conservative talk radio host. Travis, who segued from sports talk into conservative talk radio with Premiere Networks “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show” says he was warned that he would be a target because of his role in the media.

“When I took over the Rush Limbaugh time slot with Buck, they told me to expect an IRS audit every year a Dem was in office. Yep, first-ever IRS audit in show year one!” Travis posted on X/Twitter.

In a follow-up post, he wrote, “Maybe it’s a total coincidence that the first year I ever got audited by the IRS it came the same year I took over for Rush and started doing politics. But I’ve been paying lots of taxes for a while now. Awfully coincidental that it happens in 2021 for the first time ever.”

Travis, who founded Outkick.com, and Sexton took over the 12-3pm daypart on many stations that aired the late Rush Limbaugh in June 2021.

He spoke about the audit during a segment on a recent show.

“I haven’t inherited some massive sum of money that’s making my tax returns complicated. And so, I don’t think that there’s any way that this is coincidental,” Travis told Sexton, according to Mediaite. “I’ve been doing talk radio for 15 years. I’ve been in the media, primarily sports media, for a long time, and over the last decade or so I started to make pretty good money… So, it’s not like this is the first time where I’ve never turned in a tax return and had to pay a lot of taxes. And I have paid a lot of taxes.”
