An article in Business Insider says podcasting has become a reprieve for many content creators and commentators who were struggling to find work in other areas of media because of the lack of diversity. As listenership started to grow, so did the advertising and brand partnership dollars. Then came a new wave of people of color who wanted to get a piece of the pie. The more people learned how accessible and easy it was to start their own podcasts, the more new voices joined the medium. Yet underrepresented groups still struggle to find capital and exposure even today.
